Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 (February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal called the West Island. This West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a vast area that extends from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time within the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. She had a dream to become a professional dancer but because of a huge growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partner. In an article released by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. When I grew out of my male counterparts, I resigned. A lot of former dancers go on to acting and in the case of Brugel it was a nudge from a high school drama teacher which pushed her towards the right path. It was the teacher who recommended she go after a role in the annual school production. Following a trial her options, she was eventually the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. It was her turn to be awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program and graduated in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Since then, she's appeared participating in numerous productions on large screens as well as smaller ones. Her most significant fame when she was offered the character of Rita in the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member during Season 1 of the series. She was rarely seen.
